Elias trained as an economist at the University of the Western Cape and the University of SA. His graduate degrees were completed at Stellenbosch University and the State University of New York at Binghamton, New York, with Masters degrees and a PH.D in Economics. He taught economics at both undergraduate and graduate levels in SA. He is currently attached to the Stellenbosch University Business School. Besides his academic career, Elias also distinguished himself as a senior diplomat in the SA Foreign Service and the Treasury of the SA Government, serving as ambassador to the International Monetary Fund, The World Bank, The European Union, Belgium and Luxembourg. Elias‘ many years experience of teaching at tertiary level will add significant value and depth to the foundation.
